Evaluation of clinical, microscopic, and ultrastructural changes after treatment with a novel Q-switched Nd:YAG laser.

چکیده
BACKGROUND The Q-switched Nd:YAG laser was among the first non-ablative lasers to be used. High-fluence photoacoustic Q-switched laser treatments were shown to produce results akin to those seen with some ablative lasers. Previous low-fluence, non-thermal, Q-switched Nd:YAG lasers produced almost no results. OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to evaluate a new combined photoacoustic/photothermal low-fluence Q-switched Nd:YAG laser in the treatment of facial photodamage. METHODS Ten individuals with photodamaged facial skin were enrolled in the study. Participants underwent six bi-weekly full-face treatments using a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser (RevLite, HOYA ConBio, Freemont, CA, USA) at 1064 nm, with an 8-mm spot size and fluence of 3.2 J/cm(2). Clinical improvement was evaluated through blinded investigator assessment of photographs obtained before and 3 months after the last treatment. Pre-auricular biopsies, performed before and 3 months following the last treatment, were processed for light and electron microscopy and analyzed for evidence of treatment-related changes. RESULTS Eight individuals completed the study with no serious or long-term complications. Blinded evaluator assessment documented improvement in a variety of different aspects of photodamaged skin. Biopsy specimens revealed changes consistent with wound repair under light microscopy, while electron microscopy confirmed new collagen deposition. CONCLUSION A novel combined photoacoustic/photothermal Q-switched Nd:YAG laser can be used for non-ablative photorejuvenation. In addition to clinical improvement, histological and ultrastructural changes consistent with new collagen deposition were noted.

متن کاملExperimental Study of a Flash-lamp Pumped Passively Q-Switched Nd:YAG Laser Using Cr4+:YAG Saturable Absorber
This paper deals with the experimental results of a xenon flash-lamp pumped passively Q-switched Nd:YAG laser using Cr4+:YAG saturable absorber. The need of a laser cavity to be integrated into a time-of-flight laser range finder is of great interest as an experimental investigation of several laser resonators. Two types of laser resonator, with different lengths, have been studied: the flat-fl...
متن کاملInvestigation of Effective Parameters on Pulsed Nd:YAG Passive Q-Switched Laser
In this paper, we report the experimental results of a pulsed flash lamped Nd:YAG laser at wavelength of 1064 nm and Qswitched by Cr4+:YAG solid state saturable absorber. We have obtained the output energy (E) and pulse-width ( p τ ) of this laser for various initial transmissions of this saturable absorber. Furthermore, the effect of reflectivity of the output coupler (R), diameter of the rod ...
متن کاملLow-fluence 585 nm Q-switched Nd:YAG laser: a novel laser treatment for post-acne erythema.
BACKGROUND Persistent post-acne erythema is one of the most common aesthetic sequelae to arise after active acne resolves. The treatment remains challenging due to lack of effective laser modalities. OBJECTIVES To evaluate the safety and efficacy of a low-fluence 585 nm Q-switched Nd:YAG laser for the treatment of post-acne erythema. MATERIALS & METHODS Twenty-five patients with post-acne e...
متن کاملTreatment of Melasma with the Photoacoustic Twin Pulse Mode of Low-Fluence 1,064 nm Q-Switched Nd:YAG Laser
BACKGROUND Low-fluence 1,064 nm Q-switched Nd:YAG laser has been widely used for the treatment of melasma. Although new Q-switched Nd:YAG lasers with photoacoustic twin pulse (PTP) mode have been recently developed for high-efficiency, there is limited information available for the new technique. OBJECTIVE This study was designed to investigate the efficacy and adverse effects after few sessi...
